After World War II, North Queensland needed more energy supplies. The Tully Gorge was therefore an ideal location for hydropower generation. In the 1950s, the building of the Koombooloomba Dam and two distinct hydroelectric generating units commenced. Due to periodical dam releases, the Tully River is continuously suitable for White Water Rafting!
