The Kimberley is one of the most remote and spectacular regions on Earth — a vast expanse of red rock, thundering waterfalls and ancient landscapes three times the size of England, yet home to only a handful of towns. Rugged, raw and deeply significant to its Traditional Owners, it rewards those willing to venture off the beaten track with scenery found nowhere else in the world.

The legendary Gibb River Road cuts through the heart of the Kimberley, linking hidden gorges, freshwater swimming holes and remote cattle stations. Windjana Gorge, Bell Gorge and Tunnel Creek are icons of the region, while the tiered pools of the Mitchell Falls are among Australia’s most breathtaking sights — best seen from the air.

Ancient Culture and Far-Flung Coast

The Kimberley holds some of the oldest continuous living cultures on the planet, with rock art galleries dating back tens of thousands of years. Its wild coastline — explored by expedition cruise — hides the Horizontal Falls, tidal wonders and countless untouched bays.

When to Visit

The Kimberley has two seasons: the Dry (May to October) and the Wet (November to April). The Dry is the main travel season — warm, clear days and accessible roads make it ideal for exploring. The Wet brings dramatic storms, full waterfalls and lush green landscapes, though many unsealed roads close. Plan around the Dry for road trips and the shoulder months for fewer crowds.

Getting There

The main gateways are Broome to the west and Kununurra to the east, both served by flights from Perth and Darwin. From there, guided tours, 4WD adventures and scenic flights open up the region. The Kimberley is remote — planning ahead is essential — but that remoteness is exactly what makes it unforgettable.

A Hot Getaways destination. Where Care is Our Compass.

Travel Kindly

At Hot Getaways, care is our compass — and a little kindness makes every journey better. When you visit Australia, we gently ask you to:

  • Care for the land and sea — tread lightly, take your rubbish with you, and help keep Australia’s wild places pristine.
  • Respect the wildlife — admire our unique animals from a distance, never feed them, and give them room to be wild.
  • Support local — choosing local operators, cafés and guides helps this beautiful place thrive.
  • Honour Country — we travel on the traditional lands and sea Country of Australia’s First Peoples, with gratitude and respect to the Traditional Custodians past and present.
  • Be kind to each other — a smile, a little patience and a helping hand make the day lovelier for everyone.

Small acts of care add up to something wonderful. Thank you for travelling kindly.
